GMS has been a proud contributor to the CANstruction Program since 1993 in the New
York region, the founding location. CANstruction is an annual design competition
amongst architects and engineers in which large scale structures are built entirely
of canned food. The structures are on exhibit for the general public and awards
are given in various categories. Once the exhibits are closed, the food is collected
and donated to local food banks for distribution to those in need. In the past,
GMS has constructed a six foot high sea horse, a giant coffee cup and a pirate ship,
using an average of 4,000 cans annually for each structure.
