Television Tower Competition Jersey City, New Jersey
In 2001, a coalition of 11 New York television stations proposed to construct a 2000-ft. Television Transmission Tower in Jersey City, NJ, to replace the 360-foot television antennae mast once perched atop the north tower of the World Trade Center. GMS was engaged to design the proposed structure. The design has three tiers with a 280-ft. triangular footprint and was developed to be accessible to the public. The design is not only architecturally elegant but also structurally simple. The shifting geometry is the key to this design, which provides more balanced wind resistance.
