Joseph W. Basel, PE

Partner

Joe Basel has over 30 years of experience working on a wide variety of buildings throughout his career, including commercial, residential and institutional — from single family homes to high rise buildings. A focus of his work has been the extensive rehabilitation and large-scale redevelopment of existing buildings in New York City, including 160 Water Street, the largest office to residential conversion in NYC. Since joining Gilsanz Murray Steficek in 1997, Joe has taken a keen interest in adaptive reuse of historic buildings and large-scale fit-out projects,  including 550 Washington Street, the former St. John’s Terminal warehouse, 111 Eighth Avenue, a former Port Authority warehouse, now Google’s NYC headquarters, the conversion of a historic Meatpacking district single story building to the 5 story Samsung “837-experience” and office space for this electronics conglomerate.

Joe is a member of the Structural Engineers Association of New York (SEAoNY), and actively volunteers his time with the ACE Mentoring program in New York City, as board member and as a mentor. He holds an MS and a BS in Structural Engineering from Manhattan College.
